I remember 10 to 15 years ago reading in a travel magazine about the top 20 beaches in the world. As I read up the list starting from the bottom I was surprised at the number I had already been to and thought maybe I should make it a goal to see them all. At the top of the list was a place called Boracay in the Philippines. Believing that I could never visit that one I discarded the plan.
More than a decade later Boracay did not disappoint. Boracay is a tiny island just a few hundred yards off the north coast of the island of Panay. You have to take a boat from Caticlan. One of the things that you notice immediately is the lack of development. In the picture immediately below you see the main street in Boracay. I don't believe there is a single automobile there.
The beach is covered withsoft white sand, it is almost like walking on pillows. The water is is a turquoise color, clear all the way to the bottom. The beach is covered with palm trees. And because there are no high rise hotels, when you look back at the land from the water all you see is water, sand and trees.
