Grenada, Nicuragua

Grenada is the oldest city in Central America settled in the early 1500's. Many of the buildings frlm that era still exist today and many are even is use. Grenada was also the original capital of Nicaragua.

Grenada is on the shore of lake Nicragua and lies beneath Mt. Masaya. In addition to it's age, Grenada is known for its 351 islands. The islands were created during Mt. Masaya's last eruption. Bolders were thrown from the volcano landing in the lake creating the islands. Today the islands host hotels, restraunts and resorts.

One of the most remarkable thing s about Grenada is that there were v ery few buildings that had more than one floor.

 

This is the oldest house in Grenada. It was also the home of William Walker during the 1840's when he ruled Nicaragua as a dictator.

I believe this church was built in the 1700's

Grenda is loacated at the base of Mt. Masaya and is always visible

This is the original church dating back to the early 1500'S

This is the original fort built to defend Grenada.
